Sending Your Child to a Major American University Costs $244,953 (Cdn$)

For the first time ever the total cost of attending one year of university has exceeded $50,000 (US$) or the exchange equivalent of $61,238 (Cdn$).

While there have been several Ivy League schools exceeding the $50K barrier before this increase, George Washington University , in downtown Washington, DC, has become the first major university to charge costs which not only are obscene, they far exceed inflation costs and any other cost except the rising cost of a share of stock in Google or RIM.

Bloomberg News reported on February 9, 2007, the change in tuition fees approved by the Trustees of the university.

This increase in cost to obtain a four year bachelors degree takes place in the shadows of the Capitol Building and the White House.

As disgusting as this obscene tuition fee seems, it will be implemented only a few kilometres from southeast Washington, DC, one of the most impoverished areas in the United States.
